Fundamentals of less-than-truckload (LTL) is the first course in SMC³'s five course LTL Online Education series. It was designed and written by LTL professionals for seasoned LTL professionals looking for a refresher and for new LTL professionals just starting their career in the industry.

This course takes you through the development of general transportation and how the need for less than truckload transportation developed. Learn how the markets and players today evolved from railroad and horse and carriage delivery to the local, regional, and national LTL transportation networks developed. Discover the “why” behind tariffs and the role contracting plays in moving freight. Finally, learn about the different operational roles involved in moving LTL freight through a carrier’s network, and issues the industry is facing.
